The MBTA is not taking full advantage of the advertising space they have.
Yet they need to raise fares. Again.
I'm telling you, this agency requires court monitoring.

Ridership is up; the blank advertising spaces shown in these photographs is NOT
the result of an economy in ruins. There are still commercials on TV and billboards
along the roads. If, in fact, the MBTA was having such an advertising problem,
they should lower the cost-per-space in order to reap SOME monetary benefit,
rather than sacrificing the revenue entirely!
The MBTA contracts with a 3rd party to perform this business responsibility. I
wanted to know how this worked, so here's what they told me:
"The MBTA is a ten year contractual agreement with Titan Worldwide Outdoor to
manage (including sales, install and maintence) of all our advertising inventory. As
such we receive a guaranteed minimum of upwards of 11 million dollars a year.
This contract numerous incentives, that afford us bonuses when sales
exceed our minimum guarantee."
Yes, this is public information. And no, 11 million dollars a year is not a substantial
amount of money in relation to the magnitude of the MBTA's financial deficit.

A commenter:
Again, what did they do with the money we gave for parking fees? Which was a
200% increase in parking fees. If the "T" goes up 15% more, what improvements
are going to be made? Will it be the same again as in the past, "We get nothing
back for increased fares?
Fare hike would cut ridership on MBTA
